So, what's with the name?

Why on God's green earth would someone choose a name like Eclectic Spider for a business? The first answer is somewhat obvious: All the good names/domains are taken. The second is a bit more thoughtful and is relevant to the science/art of SEO.

Search Engine Optimization is an industry where there is no governing body, no "standards", no formal education, and seldom a consensus on best practices. So called experts in the field have taken observations, personal failures, stories told by others, whisperings from the search engines, and other such means to formulate opinions on what the best ways to get high rankings are. Unfortunately, there are problems with this methodology.

Anytime a company invests capital to implement changes that are at best educated opinions, there is considerable business risk. Risk to the actual investment, risk to current traffic and search engine positions, risk to lost opportunities in regards to other initiatives that were delayed or shelved to make these SEO improvements. Often times SEO consultants are not honest to their clients as to what they do and do not know.

So back to eclectic...
